The Equifax group action is a case for compensation that has been ongoing since 2017 when news of the cyberattack hit the headlines and people were notified of their involvement.

Victims of the hack could be entitled to claim compensation for any distress that has been caused by the loss of control of their personal information. They may also be entitled to claim for any losses and expenses that might have arisen as a result of fraud and theft, but you do not need to have lost any money to be able to claim.

You may still be in time to pursue a claim – we strongly recommend that you contact our team here now for free, no-obligation advice to find out, if you have yet to start your case.

About the Equifax group action

The Equifax group action is a legal case for compensation for anyone who was affected by the cyberattack that took place in 2017. The hack stemmed from Equifax failing to patch a known security vulnerability that criminals went on to exploit, with millions of pieces of information at risk of exposure.

Thousands of people were affected in the UK, and we have been representing victims off the cyberatack for a number of years as part of a group action for compensation. Because the hack occurred before the GDPR, we are pursuing claims on the basis of the previous Data Protection Act 1998. This can allow victims of a data breach to claim compensation and we are confident that we will be able to resolve the action that we have launched.

Ultimately, Equifax failed to patch a known security vulnerability. In our view, this simply establishes that they have been negligent in the duty of care that they had for the information of the people affected by this incident. This is the basis on which we believe we will be able to secure compensation for those we represent.

Are you still in time to claim?

The Equifax group action for compensation stems from a cyberattack that occurred five years ago. We are already at an advanced stage for many of those who we represent, and time really is running out to be able to claim.

Generally speaking, you may have up to six years in which to pursue a claim for distress as a victim of a data breach. It is likely that the final cut-off point for people being able to claim maybe in the next 12 months. However, we cannot rule out the court imposing an earlier deadline and as we are now just 12 months away from what may be the final deadline to claim. There are no guarantees for anyone who wishes to pursue a case now.

We always strongly advise people that they should pursue their claim for compensation without delay. When we are working on a No Win, No Fee basis, we believe there is really no reason as to why anybody would not want to pursue a claim right away. Ultimately, the longer you leave it, the bigger the risks are that you may be unable to start a claim, and you may lose out on thousands of pounds in compensation.

Find out if you are still in time to claim and join the Equifax group action by contacting our team for free, no-obligation legal advice here now.
