We are pursuing dozens of carmakers over allegations of cheating emissions tests, and we are helping people claim compensation on a No Win, No Fee basis.

Whilst many carmakers continue to deny that they have done anything wrong, we are continuing to pursue No Win, No Fee legal action on behalf of thousands of people. You can find out if you are eligible to pursue a case by completing a few forms on the dedicated Car Emissions Lawyers website here now.

Have carmakers been cheating emissions tests?

Many carmakers have been accused of cheating emissions tests around the world, and many of those vehicle manufacturers are accused of such behaviour here in the UK as well. Since 2015, several carmakers, including VW, Mercedes and FCA group brands, have faced fines and prosecutions arising from allegations of cheating emissions tests. Thousands of claims have also settled, primarily in the US. Last year, tens of thousands of drivers were able to settle their claims against VW over allegations of cheating emissions tests here in the UK.

Volkswagen was at the heart of the original “Dieselgate” scandal that appeared in the media in 2015. When this news first emerged, we were quick to act and we immediately accepted claims on a No Win, No Fee basis for those who may have been affected. At the same time, we were also convinced that they would not be the only carmaker involved in such behaviour and, given what has happened across the world so far, it appears that we were right. As such, dozens of carmakers now face allegations of cheating emissions tests, although they strenuously deny that they have done anything wrong. Despite their denials, prosecutions and pay-outs have been successful here in the UK and across the world.

What can be done about the issues?

For carmakers where we are able to prove the allegations have been made, those who have been affected – i.e. those who owned or leased a vehicle that could be affected by some form of emissions cheating issues – could be eligible to claim compensation. We cannot control what the government may or may not do in respect of punishment, but we can use legal action to make sure that proper punishment is issued and ensure that affected consumers are able to achieve some sort of justice for their involvement.

People could be entitled to pursue thousands of pounds in damages if their case is successful, and we are prepared to represent those who we believe are eligible to pursue a case on a No Win, No Fee basis. As such, in our view, there is really nothing to lose in pursuing a case, and you can make sure to achieve some form of justice yourself and ensure that carmakers are appropriately punished for such behaviour if allegations are proven.

It is also important to acknowledge that, if a defeat device has been deployed, once this is removed, this action may have an adverse effect on your vehicle. Clearly, this is something that needs to be addressed by way of legal action.
