{"id":1498,"date":"2018-04-02T08:00:35","date_gmt":"2018-04-02T07:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.groupactionlawyers.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1498"},"modified":"2018-03-30T15:07:00","modified_gmt":"2018-03-30T14:07:00","slug":"bodybuilding-products-bought-online-unsafe-experts-warn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.groupactionlawyers.co.uk\/blog\/bodybuilding-products-bought-online-unsafe-experts-warn","title":{"rendered":"Warnings over bodybuilding products bought online being unsafe and mislabelled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The internet has opened up the easiest way of accessing practically any kind of market, and many people &#8211; particularly young men &#8211; are turning to the internet in search of products they can use to help increase their muscle mass and improve their frame.<\/p>\n<p>But, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.groupactionlawyers.co.uk\/blog\/buying-diet-pills-online-consumers-warned-about-dangers\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">experts are warning consumers to be careful about products they buy online<\/a> after studies into bodybuilding products found alarming results about the real ingredients contained within them.<\/p>\n<p>The results of the study have indicated that many online bodybuilding products may be unsafe, or at least mislabelled.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nA number of online bodybuilding products were tested, and the results are rather alarming.<\/p>\n<div class=\"well\">\n<strong>Here is a breakdown of some of the key findings:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"blog-list\">\n<li>One-in-four products tested contained ingredients not listed on labels, with some including potentially dangerous drugs<\/li>\n<li>Almost 60% did not contain the actual levels \/ amounts of ingredients listed on the labelling<\/li>\n<li>Some ingredients found were deemed as unsafe for use and \/ or not approved by regulators for consumption<\/li>\n<li>Some contained unapproved drugs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>The products reviewed were marketed as &#8220;SARMs&#8221; &#8211; nonsteroidal selective androgen receptor modulators &#8211; which are designed to mimic the effects of testosterone to help build muscle mass. However, only around half of the products tested actually contained SARMs&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>A small number of the products tested even contained a breast cancer drug known as Tamoxifen, and some contained hormone drugs.<\/p>\n<h2>What this means for consumers<\/h2>\n<p>With bodybuilding products potentially containing harmful chemicals or unsafe drugs, consumers are at risk of suffering potentially life-threatening side-effects they may not even be fully aware of.<\/p>\n<p>Consumers may be at risk of things like strokes, heart attacks and liver damage.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, if a product is mislabelled or unsafe, it should not be on the market, but the issue is that the internet &#8211; as a market &#8211; can often be very hard to regulate.
