All of PharmaTech LLC’s liquid drugs made at one manufacturing plant have been recalled, with regulators advising consumers not to use them.<\/p>\n
Reportedly, the drugs have been contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia bacteria.<\/p>\n
Patient infections have been linked to the drugs, meaning regulators are warning against the use of their products. Notably, this is not PharmaTech’s first brush with the law. Regulators have been involved with them three times in less than a year for similar issues involving the bacteria. B.sepacia is a\u00a0complex bacteria found in soil and water. It’s often antibiotic-resistant, making it very difficult to treat as an infection. Minor symptoms can include a wet cough, sore throat and a mild fever. In more serious cases, individuals can experience symptoms of pneumonia, such as high fever, chills, fatigue and chest pain. The risk of pneumonia can be even higher for those who have immunocompromised conditions like cystic fibrosis or chronic granulomatous.<\/p>\n A number of individuals who took PharmaTech LLC’s Diocto liquid and Diocto syrup have made serious complaints to regulators and explained that their symptoms were identical to B. ceparia infection, prompting the investigations.<\/p>\n Another 20 of the common products have been recalled. Often found in hospitals, doctor’s offices and homes, we can only hope anyone who uses the products have been informed of the recall. \nIn May, regulators criticised PharmaTech’s lack of adequate quality control as it’s believed that the B. cepacia lies in the company’s internal water system. The company responded by moving out of the affected facility<\/strong>, and they apparently took down their website and phone number as well.<\/p>\n
